Otter Ales – The Otter Brewery, Luppitt, Devon. Established in October 1990 by David and Mary Ann McCaig, the brewery is located on a 16th Century farm in East Devon’s Blackdown Hills. David had brewed with Whitbreads for 17 years and Mary Ann’s family have been brewers for generations. The original objective was to develop a small micro-brewery, using it’s own spring water and local malted barley to supply a few local real ale houses with a top quality cask conditioned ale. Demand led to growth, and now over twelve years later the brewery consists of a 35 barrel brewing plant and a new one under construction.
